A new 140,000 kronor Swedish-designed amplifier to be launched this weekend will produce “completely clean sound” its inventor says.

The Lars is a 25-watt amplifier designed by Lars Engström, who until now spent his whole career building railway signalling systems.

The main selling point of Engström’s product is the purity of the sound it makes:“Ordinary amplifiers don’t just amplify the sound, they also create new sounds. We can’t hear them, but our brains pick them up and get stressed by them,” he said.

The Lars will be unveiled at a HiFi exhibition at Kista Science Tower in Stockholm this weekend.

When it goes on sale, Engström expects export markets to be most important:“I expect to sell a few in Sweden and a few more in Norway, but in the long term the big markets are China, Russia and Saudi Arabia,” he said.
