Swedish search site Hitta.se is preparing to throw down the gauntlet to Google Earth. With its new 3D model, CEO Rui Brites de Sousa reckons Hitta has a winning product on its hands.“What Google Earth does is so much more expensive, yet our technology is much more advanced,” he says.As for Hitta’s nearest rival Eniro, de Sousa feels they are not even in the same ballpark.“For this kind of application we view Google as our main competitor. We have always been better at this than Eniro.”De Sousa believes that Hitta’s users will soon also be able to “fly around an apartment”.“There are easy and -- in quotes – cheap forms of technology for taking 3D models of the interiors of apartments and restaurants. You find your way to the door and step inside. The hard part is making it seamless,” he says. The Portuguese-born chief executive does not view this kind of service as a violation of civil liberties.“If you’re going to sell your apartment it’s fine for anyone to come in, despite the fact that you have your private stuff lying around. I don’t believe in that kind of reaction any more, ” says de Sousa.
